Well 2020 is really getting to be the year that no one can guess what’s next.  In the last twenty four hours nearly a dozen earthquakes have stricken The Yellowstone National park area in Montana. Yeah I know the San Andreas movie with The Rock has been on TBS over and over the last few weeks, could this be the precursor to the big one?

The US Geological Survey has recorded nearly fifty tremblers in the Yellowstone region in since May 1, albeit most are small, ranging from 1.6 to 3.1 on the Richter scale the mere amount are somewhat concerning for local folks. Earthquakes are not unusual for the area. Yellowstone is one of the most seismically active places in the US, experiencing around 700 to 3,000 earthquakes every year, according to the Yellowstone Park website.

Earthquakes tend to occur in clusters. The largest occurred in 1985 when more than 3,000 earthquakes were recorded in three months on the northwest side of the park. “This phenomenon is related to transport of volcanic fluids along the many small fractures in the shallow rocks over the magma, a pattern that has been noted in volcanoes around the world,” according to the US Geological Survey.

Yellowstone Park not only has many earthquakes there is something even more ominous looming in the future. There is a super volcano that sits right in the middle of the park.

The US only has three supervolcanos one at Yellowstone, one in New Mexico and one at Long Valley in California. Earthquakes and a supervolcano, it really does sound like a movie for Dwayne Johnson.  But scientists don’t think it will be erupting anytime soon, maybe in the next one thousand years or so. Give or take. But if it did expect the force of one thousand Hiroshima Atomic Bombs which would cause massive destruction, with acid rain and incredible loss of life. I hope The Rock has his helicopter on stand by.
