Amarillo City officials are reporting that another large wastewater spill took place on Monday, August 3. This is the third large spill to take place in Amarillo since June 23, and the second to happen at Lift Station #40. The lift station is located at 7100 Cliffside Road off the northwest loop. The cause was identified as flooding of the drywell which caused a power outage at the station.

The volume of the spill was an estimated 300,000 gallons and was a combination of domestic, commercial and industrial wastewaters. The wastewater flowed into an open field and did not flow into a nearby creek. Disinfectant has been placed on the spill area.
The regional office of the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality has been notified of the spill.

Back on June 23, over 400,000 gallons of wastewater spilled and ran down into the lake at Southeast Park. Crews had to close the park and clean the lake and surrounding area. A second spill of 450,000 gallons took place at Lift Station #40, the same station where the latest spill happened. Since June 23, over 1,150,000 gallons of wastewater have been spilled from the Amarillo waste system.
