Amarillo Gas Prices Up This Week

Summer is coming.  And the slow and sure upward surge of gas prices has begun.

In Texas the statewide average cost for a gallon of gas rose 6 cants and is selling for and average $2.79 per gallon.  Still it’s worse, on average for the rest of the country with gasoline trading for $2.79 per gallon.

Ironically the highest prices at the pump in Texas can be found in the oil patch.  Midland has the most expensive gas in the state, selling for an average $2.79 per gallon.  Across the state,  the lowest of the low prices could be found in several cities.  Beaumont-Port Arthur, San Antonio, Sherman-Denison, Texarkana and Wichita Falls all have average at the pump prices of $2.50 per gallon.

Several factors are working to slowly spike prices at the pump.  Demand has been up over the spring and is expected to increase even more dramatically over the summer, the summer blend of gasoline is generally a few cents per gallon more expensive than winter gas, and Oil prices have been trending higher of the past 10 days following reports that crude inventories had fallen.  With increased demand and smaller supply, simple economics inform us that you will be paying yet more at the pump and soon.
