Updated: Amarillo ISD Students Can Still Get Food From Schools

With what should have been the end of Spring Break and the kiddos going back to school of course that is not happening. Not sure when or if the kiddos will be going back this school year due to Covid-19.

With all the uncertainty it added to the fact that some kids count on the schools to receive breakfast and lunch. What was going to happen? Over the weekend the Amarillo Independent School District posted an online questionnaire to see where the need is for the district.

Without even the deadline for the questionnaire to be filled out they decided to take action.

This was posted on Tascosa High Schools page with the list of other food pickup locations.

Meal Information:

LUNCH will be served curbside only from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, M-F, starting MONDAY, MARCH 23RD.

**Austin MS is the designated pickup site for THS students.

BREAKFAST will be served curbside from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM,

M-F, starting TUESDAY, MARCH 24TH.

**Austin MS is the designated pickup site for THS students.

*Snack Pack for students will be delivered to those who are receiving the packages on Friday, March 27th. More info to come on future week(s).

Amarillo ISD plans to offer meals for our students during these changing times. Meals will be offered for any child age 18 or younger, at eight schools. These eight schools will offer lunch service; four of the eight will also offer breakfast. All meals are free of charge. In order to follow social distancing and group gathering restrictions, meal service will be offered in a “drive-up/drive-thru” method.

***One meal, per child present in the vehicle, will be provided.**

Lunch Service, 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m., Monday-Friday: (begins Monday, March 23rd)

Breakfast Service, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., Monday-Friday: (begins Tuesday, March 24th)

In addition, the High Plains Food Bank will reinforce the Kids Café model in our community to make evening meals available. Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, Kids Cafe Staff will be in the parking lot areas of the following campuses/locations at 3:15 pm for approximately 30 minutes. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Food will be provided in a to-go container and a child must be present to receive the meal.
