It's pretty safe to say that this year will be the year of the "staycation." Not only are we limiting travel to help slow the spread of coronavirus, but most of your favorite vacation destinations are not open for normal business. Plus, most of us have been hit hard in the wallet no matter which industry you work for.

Luckily for us, when it comes to Amarillo being a staycation city, we rank pretty well compared to the rest of the country. In a fun-filled yet wallet-friendly staycation study, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 15 key metrics. The data set ranges from parks per capita, to the average home square footage, and the idealness of summer weather.

Out of 182 cities acorss the United States, Amarillo ranked high at #31. That ranks us higher than Dallas, Corpus Christi, Tulsa, Fort Worth, and Lubbock. The town that ranked number 1 for the best staycation is Plano, Texas. The worst city in the United States for a staycation - Pearl City, Hawaii. The cities were ranked based on two key dimensions: 1) Recreation and 2) Rest & Relaxation. Within those categories, all cities were ranked according to recreation, parks per capita, bike rentals, hiking trails, running trails, walking trails, miles of bicycle lanes, paths & routes per square mile, walk-ability, bike-ability, strictness of shelter in place order, rest & relaxation, average price of pizza & burgers, average price of beer & wine, average home square footage, homes with swimming pools, and ideal summer weather.
