Apparent Audio of Axl Rose Rehearsing With AC/DC Surfaces [Updated]
Axl Rose is having a banner year in 2016. Not only are Guns N' Roses set to embark on a tour rounded out by original members Slash and Duff McKagan for the first time in two decades, but the singer has landed the gig as Brian Johnson's stand-in for Australian rock powerhouses AC/DC. The band reportedly auditioned tribute act singers before choosing Rose and now audio has surfaced from Rose's alleged rehearsal with the group.
In the video above, the band practice the immortal "Hell's Bells" and what sounds like Rose can be heard belting out the timeless lyrics. The high shrieks are delivered with the familiar grit and tonality of Johnson, demonstrating why Rose was chosen as his replacement. Below are videos of "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" along with "Back in Black," "Shoot to Thrill" as well as "Thunderstruck." It has not been confirmed that the singer heard in these videos is indeed Axl Rose.
With longtime singer Brian Johnson on the outs as he risks total hearing loss if he performs onstage with AC/DC, Rose was officially selected as Johnson's replacement prior to GN'R's first headlining Coachella set. Guitarist Angus Young joined Guns N' Roses onstage as they tore through two AC/DC classics -- "Riff Raff" and "Whole Lotta Rosie."
Singers from tribute acts Thunderstruck and Back and Black have both released statements detailing their respective auditions with AC/DC, grateful for the opportunity despite not landing the gig. The decision to welcome Rose has polarized fans and musicians alike. On one side, Zakk Wylde and Alice Cooper have come out in support of Rose, saying "I couldn't think of a better choice" and that his voice is "absolutely perfect" for AC/DC respectively. The Who's Roger Daltrey, however, shunned the idea stating, "I mean, go and see karaoke with Axl Rose? Give me a break."
