It's been a busy week when it comes to Sod Poodles press releases. There's a lot going on as we get close to the opening of the 2021 season.

First, the games that were scheduled to take place at Hodgetown between University of New Mexico and Air Force baseball have been canceled. Don't worry, refunds are supposed to be automatic.

The reason why the games were canceled is hard to be mad about. According to the press release, the state of New Mexico is opening back up, and gave its blessing for the games to be held in Albuquerque.

Inconvenient because you now have to come up with something to do instead? Yes. Something to be really upset about? Not really.

Another bit of news that just came out of Hodgetown is the announcement that they have picked up a new team manager. Shawn Roof has been named the team manager for the Sod Poodles for the 2021 season.

Roof has several credits to his name, and he is a two-time Minor League Manager of the Year. This is his fourth season with the Diamondbacks, and his first coaching at the Double-A level. This will be his seventh season coaching pro baseball, overall.

Roof will be the second manager in the Sod Poodles franchise history. If you're wondering if we'll be getting a manager that is prone to entertaining displays of frustrated theatrics, we will.

At least that's what this video from Roof's tenure with the Hillsboro Hops leads me to believe.

The Sod Poodles kick their season off on Tuesday May 4 in Tulsa.
