Amarillo’s check from the state for it’s piece of the state sales tax pie has arrived in the city’s account.

Sales tax revenue is critical revenue for the city and makes up 13% of the general fund’s budget.  It contributes more that any other source, including property taxes.  State sales tax revenue is paid out from the state comptroller’s office.

In February, Amarillo got a payment of $8 million for collections in December.  That brings the 2017 take up to $14 million.  That’s a 2% increase from this time last year.

The check for Canyon was healthy also, up 2.6% from this time in 2017.
