While most of the US right now is dealing with the legalization of cannabis for medical and recreational use, and figuring out what to do with all of the money, one group is targeting “archaic” beer laws in Texas.

CraftPac Texas claims that beer laws in the “Lone Star State” are broken. As you can see when attending events like Beerfest in Amarillo, Texas has a lot of breweries across the state. One thing that sets our breweries apart from every other brewery in the country, according to CraftPac, is the ability to purchase beer “to-go” from the brewery.

Breweries are not allowed to sell beer for you take off of the premises. You can go to a tasting room and sample, but forget about purchasing a six pack to take home. According to CraftPac Texas, this is what makes Texas rank 46th out of 50 states when it comes to the number of breweries per capita.

We’re the largest state in the lower 48, and yet we rank near the bottom when it comes to number of breweries. Some point the finger at this strange law, saying it makes it Texas less attractive to those who would otherwise open a new business here.

I honestly had no idea that this was the case regarding breweries, especially when you consider that you can purchase wine from a winery or liquor from a distillery to-go.

I now understand why the debate regarding cannabis in Texas seems so ridiculous. We can’t even play a game of cards for money, or purchase beer to-go from a brewery.
