Heads up. As of today, there is a burn ban in effect. Not that you would want to be outside anyways.

Today, word was handed down that the Randall County Commissioner’s Court passed a county-wide burn ban order. As I gaze at the snow in the parking lot of my office, I'm left scratching my head.

But this is why I am in radio and not emergency management. According to the press release;

This Order will prohibit any and all outdoor burning of trash, debris and brush in the unincorporated areas of the county for 90 days from the date of adoption of this Order, unless the restrictions are terminated earlier based on a determination made by the Commissioner’s Court based on a determination that the circumstances that require the Order no longer exist.

Should circumstances improve to where a determination that the Order be rescinded in the time between regularly scheduled meetings of the Commissioner’s Court, the County Judge has the authority to rescind the Order.

In accordance with Local Government Code §352.081(h), a violation of the Order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00.

So no burning trash for the next 90 days. No matter how much snow and drizzling rain we get.

Plus, it's too cold outside for that kind of thing anyway.
