The City of Amarillo wants everyone to know, that if you need a test, there are plenty to go around. In fact, city officials have said that they are seeing fewer coronavirus and COVID-19 tests being completed daily at the city's drive up testing site than what they anticipated. If you have been watching the news, then you know that this scenario is a really good problem to have right now compared to other localities across the country.

Drive up testing in Amarillo began last week, and is for any person who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. If you feel that you or a family member needs to be tested, the first step is to contact the Amarillo Public Health Department. You can call (806) 378-6300 and they will conduct an over the phone evaluation with you. If your symptoms warrant a test, then you will be directed to the city's drive-thru testing site for you test. Right now, the testing site is only open to those who have done the pre-screen with the Health Department.

“We’ve been working around the clock for several days to get these tests in place and the facility set up for this program,” said Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson. “We are finally seeing a good supply of tests coming into our region, and we want to get them out to those that need them as quickly as possible.”

Testing will take place weekdays from 9am to 4pm as tests remain available. Amarillo city officials would like to remind you that if you feel you need a test, make the call. Again, you must go through the pre-screen from the Health Department to take the test. The public is not allowed to show up at the testing site if they have not been directed to be tested from the Health Department.
