Saturday is National Cleanup Day and the city of Amarillo will provide you with plenty of ways to take part.

National Cleanup Day, which had almost two million volunteers in 2018, is a coast-to-coast initiative encouraging organizations and individuals to combine to clean neighborhoods, cities, parks, and where ever needed.

Locally, Keep Amarillo Clean is organizing volunteer groups and providing maps. Keep Amarillo Clean can be reached by calling (713) 385-3474.

The City of Amarillo stated, “Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Division will also provide several ways to participate in National Cleanup Day. For more information on how to organize volunteer groups, call SWCDD at (806) 378-6813. SWCDD can provide resources for large volunteer groups, including a limited supply of garbage bags, safety vests and gloves”.

Hours of operation for city brush sites will be extended on Saturday. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only brush will be accepted at the brush sites. Brush site locations are 3401 Broadway Drive and 3718 S. Eastern Street.

To throw out large items, call SWCDD for pickup at (806) 378-6813. Due to expected large amounts on National Cleanup Day, curbside pickup may be delayed 24 hours. There are no designated drop-off areas for large items.

The City also stated, “small items should be placed in dumpsters. Please do not place items next to a dumpster or in an alley. If a dumpster is full, please find another nearby dumpster to discard smaller items”.

Let’s make Amarillo the shining city that it truly is.
