Yesterday, it was pointed out several times by multiple forecasters that the winter weather will be record setting. The temperatures haven't been this cold in decades. The amount of snow being forecast only happens once every 5 to 10 years...for the entire month of February.

It goes without saying, but be safe this weekend.

If you have to be out of the house this weekend, dress in layers and keep your time outside to a minimum. Several times this week, the threat of frostbite and hypothermia has been talked about.

For the love of all that is holy, keep your pets indoors this weekend. Don't leave them outside. If it's dangerous for humans, you can bet your teacup chihuahua is going to have a bad time.

Go ahead and insulate your pipes if you haven't. Leave your cabinet doors open. Leave the thermostat up and on. I already know one person personally who has had their pipes burst, and we're not even into the worst of what is being forecast for the weekend.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has been frequently updating their social media pages with the latest on this weekend's winter weather.

They pointed out this morning that Sunday through Tuesday of next week we'll see those dangerous wind chill values. They're predicting the wind chill to get as cold as -25 to -30 in some parts of our area.

Snow totals for this weekend are being forecast at somewhere between 6 to 9 inches.

If you have to travel this weekend, just know that it is going to be treacherous in places. Plan ahead, leave early enough to give yourself more than enough time to get where you're going, and make sure you have extra blankets and supplies in your vehicle in case you end up stranded.
