Every year in March, bands that are coming through the area on their way from or to SXSW make a stop in Amarillo for SXSJ. 6th Street comes alive with events through almost the entire month.

With news breaking that SXSW had officially been canceled due to concerns over the novel coronavirus, I wondered about SXSJ. Would SXSJ make the same call?

A quick check online showed that the annual festival on 6th was alive and well. The calendar of events for Amarillo's SXSJ runs through March 22.

The Facebook page for SXSJ is going strong with updates.

You'll find things happening at Leftwoods, The 806, and Goldenlight for pretty much the rest of the month.

This would be a great time, if you haven't already, to make a trip down to 6th Street to take in some live music. Plus, there's plenty of good food to be had too.

Be sure to check out the SanJac Coalition website, the SXSJ event page, or the SXSJ Facebook page for more information, updates, and event schedule.

Honestly, I enjoy going down to 6th Street to catch a performance or open mic. There's a lot of talent in Amarillo, and a lot coming through Amarillo. 6th Street is one of my favorite places to see it all.
