Domestic violence affects every city in every part of this country. There isn't a poster child for domestic violence. It can happen anywhere no matter your sex, color, orientation, or income.

Covid kept a lot of events away last year. So this is the year to bring them all back. One that we look forward to every summer is back. I am talking about the Harley Party to benefit Family Support Services.

So early on in 2020 things already hit Family Support Services hard. Their office in Downtown Amarillo had a fire. A lot of damages occurred. In fact their building was destroyed. So they already had to find a place to home them.

If I told you we as Amarilloan's were generous what would you think? We have seen it time and time again. It has especially been noticed during this year we call 2020. We have stepped up to help people. That is what being generous is all about.

As if Family Support Services has not been hit enough this year. First a fire that closed their location in Downtown Amarillo earlier this year and now this. In an announcement yesterday they have had to cancel this years Harley Party.

This is what I love about our community. Something tragic happens and we come together to help out our own. Every single time.

One of the biggest parties of the year takes place every February in New Orleans. When you talk about New Orleans, you talk about Mardi Gras. Some of us have never been to Mardi Gras and never will, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans style and the Family Support Services does that every single year.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Family Support Services wants to bring awareness to those living in the Amarillo area.  You may not think this is a problem in Amarillo but it is, over 4,566 calls came into the FSS Domestic Violence crisis hotline, and to the Amarillo and Canyon Police Departments as well as the Randall and Potter County Sheriffs office last year.
