Texas One Step Closer To Raising Legal Age To Purchase Cigarettes

If you're under 21 and enjoy the occasional cigarette or three, I come bearing bad news. Texas is about to change the legal age to purchase tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.

Yesterday (Tuesday) the bill passed a vote in the house. It would raise the age to purchase tobacco products to 21, excluding military personnel.

Now the bill awaits its final approval before being sent back to the Senate, and then on to the Governor's desk.

We aren't the only ones. Several other states have already raised the legal age to purchase tobacco products, and some also have the military exemption.

The interesting part of the legislation is that it also includes e-cigarettes. I wonder if this will do anything to reduce the number of students who are vaping. Kids will always find a way to do whatever they want to do. The best we can do is not make it so easy.

I personally wish I could argue against this, but I can't. I'm 13 years deep into my addiction, and I've never once told anyone it's a good idea.
