It's not because they want us to be safe. I commend the city for actually addressing the holiday and putting out tips on having a safe Halloween. I've noticed several people on social media wondering if the city was going to have anything to say regarding the holiday.

The video actually has some nice tips. They emphasize outdoor activities, limiting the number of people involved in festivities, keeping up with social distancing, and they even put a reminder in the video that the CDC has advised against traditional trick-or-treating.

What made me pause the video for a second was the scene of the kids sitting in a socially distanced circle in their yard carving pumpkins. I don't mean to be rude, but it gave me a pretty good chuckle.

It was humorously scary. The image of children sitting in a giant circle slowly disfiguring pumpkins in the front yard just struck me as something really worth a giggle.

I do think that next year I will have a display of children sitting in a massive circle stabbing pumpkins in my yard.

All joking aside, follow the tips in the video. They're good. They're smart. Even if you're super-tough and consider yourself an uber-patriot, think of others and not just yourself when you go out for Halloween this year.

The good news is that there are a lot of outdoor events being planned this Halloween. Just be sure to wear your mask (not just a plastic one of Spider-Man) and keep up with the social distancing.
