Tony Lewis, Lead Singer of “The Outfield” passes at 62.

Damn...

As if 2020 couldn't suck enough...now comes word that Tony Lewis, lead singer of "The Outfield", has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62.

Spin Magazine is reporting that Lewis passed unexpectedly at his home near London early Tuesday.  As for the cause of death, that is still to be discovered. Lewis also had a solo career a couple of years back. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, 2 daughters, and 3 grandchildren.

If anything, this brings to the forefront that so many great artists of the 80's...OUR generation, are leaving us.  Heck, this is the year that we lost Eddie Van Halen, so what's next?

Of course, EVERYONE knows the song "Your Love"...which we love playing on Awesome 98. However, there were quite a few other, minor hits from that first album that were incredible. Two of my favorite songs, were never big hits, but both came from the album "Play Deep", which put The Outfield on the musical map.

And yes...our radio buddy Wes Nessman actually had a vinyl copy of "Play Deep" in his office.

First, A GREAT 80's rock jam... "Say It Isn't So" (Not the Hall and Oates song). the opening line alone is worth the price of admission.

"You got me all screwed up..."

Also, the actual follow-up to "Your Love", "All The Love In The World". This song ultimately reached number 19 on the Billboard charts in 1986.

To this day, I am still floored that these guys weren't MUCH bigger in the 80's than they were. Unfortunately, they will forever be relegated to the "one-hit-wonder" label, due to the enduring success of "Your Love".
