They say all good things come to an end. Every season of sports will end, and a fresh one will begin. Every good day will end with the setting of the sun, but a new one is always on the horizon.

Every good career comes to an end, and a new one will begin for someone else.

That's the case for Randall High School head football coach Gaylon Selman, as the sun will be setting on his time with the Raiders after announcing his retirement.

Selman has been with Randall for 23 years and was the Raiders' head coach for the past seven years, and it was a pretty successful tenure. He made the state playoffs every season he was at the helm, and advanced to the third round of the playoffs in six of those seven years. He finishes his time at Randall with a 42-42 record.

Look around the state and you won't find a whole lot of coaches who can add something like that to their resume.

While the playoff wins are always something coaches pride themselves on, maybe the biggest achievement any high school coach can have is having the kids on his roster to commit to college, and Selman had plenty of kids move on to the next level.

When you have success, why leave a job? Well, some leave for bigger and better opportunities. Selman told KAMR 4 he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family. Selman said, “Being the coach of the year is awesome, but if you’re not being the father of the year and husband of the year in your own household then something is wrong, not there is anything wrong there, but that is what I want to do is be that husband and father, just the sacrifices it takes to do this job.”

Best of luck to Coach Selman in his retirement!

Top 10: These Are Texas’ Most Expensive High School Football Stadiums in '22

In fact as of last year, Texas is only second to Florida (by two players) as the state with the most players in the NFL.
